LES PRADELLES

Our Chambre d’hotes is a typical house of the Correze region. It is situated

in the small village of Lapleau which has its baker, post office, small café

and filling station.

Close by are the wooded gorges of the Dordogne and its tributaries with

their ever-changing vistas. The Trans-Correzian way

(on the route of the old railway) passes through the village for the keen

 walker,and many local footpaths allow you to enjoy the varied flora and

fauna of the area.

Deep in the nearby gorge is the “viaduct of the black rock” –a remarkable

piece of architectural heritage which carried the old steam train.

You can stand on the viewing platform or walk down the winding path

 to its tall towers.

The villages and hamlets throughout the surrounding countryside attract

walkers,cyclists and sightseeing motorists – six of the designated

 “most beautiful villages of France” are in the Correze. Towns of interest

include historic Tulle on the Correze river –ancient centre of lace making

 and still famous for its accordions!

A little further is Brive La Gaillarde with Renaissance architecture,

shady boulevards and a large and bustling market.

To the East is Bort les Orgues with the highest river dam and 100 hectare lake,

which surrounds the picturesque Chateau de Val.

Above the town are gigantic columns of lava resembling organ pipes–

this is a volcanic region.

Gastronomic delights abound – the Limousin produces excellent beef,

 cheeses,and local liqueurs - many traditional dishes appear in its restaurants.

For the more athletic among you, outdoor activities abound – be it canoeing

down the river gorges, paragliding, hang gliding or,  prompted by the

Tour de France, following some of the many cycling routes.

To return to the house, all bedrooms are comfortably furnished, heated,

light and airy. with en-suite shower, wash basin & wc. One bedroom can

be used as a family room (max four persons)

Included in the price is a full continental breakfast with a choice of cereals,

 breads with home-made preserves, yoghurts, teas and coffee etc. This can

 be taken in the conservatory overlooking the garden, or taken al fresco.

Evening meals by prior arrangement.

We are approx 1hr 40 mins from Limoges airport, where Ryanair fly from

 Liverpool, East Midlands & Stansted. Flybe operate from Southampton

to Limoges.

Good Train links from Paris to the towns of Brive La Gaillarde, Tulle,

Ussel and Egletons.

We are postioned  with good road network links. We are approx 7 to 9

hours drive from the ferry ports.

(depending on which port you use and road conditions.)

The A20 from Paris – Toulouse is only approx 35 mins away and the

 A89 Bordeaux –Lyon/Clemant Ferrond is approx 20 mins from Lapleau.
